Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Lawbyte (lawbyte.app) is an online marketplace that connects people with independent lawyers. Lawbyte is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. This policy covers clients and lawyers. See also our Terms of Service.
2. Information we collect
Clients: name, email, phone (optional), state, request details, and messages you send.
Lawyers: name, city, bar number, jurisdiction, practice areas, profile content and fees, availability, documents you upload, and billing identifiers held by Stripe (we do not store full card numbers).
Automatically: device and browser information, IP address, and cookies or similar storage needed to keep you signed in and run the site.
3. How we use it
To match requests with lawyers and run messaging; to check lawyer licenses; to handle lawyer billing; to keep the service secure and prevent abuse; and to send service notices (for example request confirmations, reply alerts, and account emails).
4. How we share it
With matched lawyers: up to 3 verified attorneys licensed in your state first see only your first name, practice area, and a short summary. Your full contact details and message are shared only after a lawyer unlocks the lead.
With service providers: Stripe (lawyer payments), our email delivery provider, and our hosting and database providers, only as needed to run Lawbyte.
When required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the security of the service.
We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to: know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; delete it; correct it; opt out of sale or sharing (we do not sell or share it); limit use of sensitive personal information; and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
To exercise a right, email privacy@lawbyte.app or use our contact form. We will verify your request (usually by confirming control of your account email) and respond within the timelines required by law (generally 45 days, which may be extended as allowed). An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with proof of authorization.
6. Retention
We keep account information and messages while your account is active, and afterwards as needed for legal, security, or dispute-resolution reasons. Lawyers' uploaded documents are kept until the lawyer deletes them or the account is closed.
7. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and browser storage that are needed to sign you in and run the site. We may use basic, aggregate analytics to understand site usage. We do not use advertising cookies.
8. Minors
Lawbyte is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
9. Security
We use reasonable measures such as encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls that limit who can read each record, and private file storage. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Where data is stored
Lawbyte is operated from the United States and your information is stored and processed in the United States.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this policy and will post the new version with a new "Last updated" date. Privacy questions: privacy@lawbyte.app. Terms questions: terms@lawbyte.app.
